A Celebration of Heritage Craft

A Celebration of Heritage Craft

JOIN US Saturday, November 16 from 11am to 3pm for a Celebration of Heritage Craft! The Craft School Mill Hollow Works is proud to be partnering once again with The Monadnocker to bring Keene this fantastic event.

We’ve invited some of our favorite makers – about 20 of them – to set up shop in and around The Craft School’s gorgeous greenhouse, which is decked out for this special season. Come shop local goods & gifts right before the holidays.

Munch and brunch on local flavors including the famous spanakopita of Mama Maria’s Gyros and More. Enjoy live performances by talented area musicians and speakers. Shop to the soothing sounds of Life on Venus, performing live in our Greenhouse from 1:30 to 2:30pm. The amazing storyteller and podcaster Sebastian Lockwood will be telling the story of NH’s Chieftain Passaconaway at 12pm. At 2pm Keene’s own podcaster and historian Gail Golec will be presenting “Restoring the Narratives of Indigenous and Black New Englanders.”

Later, at 2:30pm, learn a traditional “Waulking” song and participate in Waulking the Tweed with Kathy Torrey. And if you’re in the mood to move, be part of the Beginning Contra Dance from 4pm to 5pm with music by Randy Miller and calling by Kathy Torrey. There will be a lesson at the start, so this is a great opportunity if you’ve always wanted to give it a try!

Guests should also come prepared to get crafty because The Craft School will be offering make-and-take activities for adults and children including a Kids Crafting Corner. See up close demonstrations by Heritage Craft Artisans and engage with the Makers. Demonstrations include Blacksmithing, Basketry, Wood Carving, Boatbuilding, Rug Hooking, Wool Spinning, Flax Spinning and Broom Making.

View an exhibit from “Legacy in Crafting: New England’s Story”, the in-progress documentary project of MHW Founder Heather Holloway. Legacy in Crafting; New England’s Story is a symbiotic tale, a journey that weaves through and amongst the hands and hearts of modern heritage crafters as they maintain the traditional fabric of New England craft work, integral to our American cultural heritage and the regional identity of New Englanders. This exhibit includes photography and media excerpts from the project – and includes gorgeous prints for sale.

When you arrive, enter a variety of raffles to win homemade items donated by our invited makers.

This is a celebration you don’t want to miss because it’s all about enjoying the good things that make our home a special place to live. We can’t wait to see you!

This event is made possible with support from the NH State Council on the Arts, the National Endowment of the Arts and funding by the NHSAC Folklife and Traditional Arts Project Grant.
